To submit to search engines or not?

I have noticed over the last month my website has been getting quite a few organic hits for the keyword “free search engine submission” and words similar. It tells me that many website owners are looking to get their websites onto search engines, which is an obvious thought for the uneducated search marketer (I used to be one of them).

What many website owners do not realise is that search bots are crawling the internet searching for new content via links. If website owners outsourced a SEO (search engine optimisation) specialist to search for quality incoming links search bots will automatically index their website because of these incoming links and there will be no need to submit a website’s URL to search engines.

For the uneducated, there is also a question regarding which search engines to submit to, some self acclaimed websites promote that they can submit your URL to 100’s of search engines, which will generate extra “targeted” traffic. This is all very well but the fact of the matter remains is that there are only two major players in the market, they are Google and Yahoo. See fig. below.

Search engine submission is misinterpreted by many website owners; they are under the impression that submitting a website will automatically get them traffic. This is so far from the truth and if any company who promises this should be scrutinized. A website is designed and developed for two reasons; brand development and for generating additional sales. For brand development and generating sales to function properly, the SEO and internet marketing strategy should be implemented by a SEO specialist. So submitting a website URL to search engines should never be needed. Outsourcing a SEO and IM (internet marketing) specialist will create the internet exposure you require to turn your website into a profitable business tool.

So, let the search engines find you. Search is a all about being organic!
