The mobile marketing phenomenon

In the last few months the world has seen companies scrambling for their own .mobi domain name, their own slice of the mobile phenomena. Essentially what mobile marketing means is to target an audience via their cell phone. The big question is who is using their cell phone to search for business products/services? Not many I dare say. Search is not very popular on the mobile phone or rather not yet…

People who are using their cell phones to go online are between the ages of 13 to 30. So by going by the demographic statistics not every business needs an online mobile marketing campaign.

The average age that people use their SMS function on their mobile phone is from 13 to 60 years old. A much larger group of people than the online users but a different type of marketing campaign is needed to reach these potential or current customers.

Another crucial area to point out is that because human beings are bombarded with advertising everyday we are becoming numb to this form of marketing. It is interesting to note that people are more open to buying a product/service even when they see a complete stranger has bought something but they will not consider it if it comes from an advertisement on a billboard, TV, radio etc. So this brings me to social media marketing, websites like facebook, stumbleupon etc. Now we have the social websites going mobile, this is a huge market if your product is targeted towards the age group 13 to 30.

Using mobile social media marketing can be compared to word of mouth marketing in the traditional marketing sense and with virtually every person over the age of 16 having a mobile phone (even in the remote areas) with internet connection it is a good idea to start thinking mobile in your next marketing campaign.
