Looking into the new year, 2009 will be about effective social media marketing, utilising tools which will reach the masses and right now the masses are using mobile phones.

But I’d like to take another angle on it.  As marketers there’s a lot of hype about targeting mobile consumers but are we as marketers using mobile tools as well?  For those who are always on the road and don’t have time to sit in front of their desktop to blog and interact in social communities, there must be other media channels to take advantage of.  Here are a few that will keep you busy:

Yes, first on the list is Twitter.  I have said in a previous blog post that I wasn’t entirely convinced about the effectiveness of Twitter, since then I have changed my tone.  It’s taken me just under 2 months to get to where I am now, 94 followers and 154 tweets and I can now finally confidently say that there is value in it as traffic is being directed from my Twitter profile.  The most powerful aspect of it though is networking with fellow bloggers and business owners.  It steers away from the formality of old school email, keeping conversation brief and to the point.

Now that I am spending a little bit more time out of the office, I don’t always get to put my daily tweet/s online.  Welcome Twitter Mobile.. For those who are on the run, you can constantly stay in touch with your followers and those who you are following.  Keeping up to date with news has never been easier!  In most cases I get news before it hits the headlines on Sky or CNN!

In most instances photos/images are very powerful sales tool, some industries can take advantage of Flickr Mobile.  If you are in the travel industry this should be on the top of your to do list!  You can now incorporate Flickr into your blog so your blog is automatically updated with photos.  If you have a business model that is visual then creating a Flickr account is a must.

Shozu complements Flickr Mobile, download the software to your phone and start sharing your photos with one click.   Send photos and video to more than 50 online social communities, email distribution lists, blogs, photo sites and other popular web destinations in one go.  This is definitely something you need in your marketing ammo.

Finally, a browser which you can use on your mobile phone.  Opera Mini has reached celebrity status in the mobile realm.  Use this neat browser for all your mobile surfing.
